Diana Bauer

Hello Diana, really happy to have you here in the newest Magik’s project. With his magazine, he wants that people discover a lot of hidden artists… He told us also that, you know both really good and Magik says that he wanted you for the interview. For us it’s a great pleasure to have a vocalist from oversea. Chicago, the town of music since more than 30 years from where you are…

DJ News Mag : What was it that really made You decide You wanted to become a vocalist/singer?

Diana : Ahhh well when I was a wee Di my mother and I would play board games in our kitchen to pass the time away, and she would sing old 40’s and 50’s songs from her childhood. I began singing along with her and eventually we would harmonize entire playlists of songs. That’s when I knew I loved to sing and have been doing so ever since.

DJ News Mag : Since when did you get into singing? What type of music you listened to and grew on?

Diana : I began singing professionally around the early 90’s in a rock band called Beggar’s Velvet. We toured the Chicago clubs doing a tribute to the rock band Heart, but never got off into original material. After the band dissolved Stack aka: Shadowfall and I created an album of original material in our studio, but unfortunately that has never been released on a label. I took a long break from the microphone after that for various reasons, kids, work, life, and hadn’t sung in quite some time. Then in August of 2007 I met Robert Vadney and he asked me to sing on his production of “World On Mute”, and that lead to where I am now musically.

DJ News Mag : In a few words, how would you describe your music and especially your lyrics? In what manner do you pen down the lyrics for a song?

Diana : There have been occasions that it was hard finding the right words to come through on a song. I’m a hopeless romantic so I gravitate towards meaningful loving lyrics, or broken hearted phrases. I mainly just let the feel of the music tell me where to take the melody, then let my heart take over where the lyrics begin.

DJ News Mag : What are some of your future plans? Tell us more about your feature album.

Diana : My partner David aka: Blufeld and I are very excited to be releasing our first album as a team. The album Overflow - “True Feelings”, which is a 9 track release, will be going to promo on January 11th and will be exclusive on Beatport January 25th. The album covers an amazing amount of ground in genre styles from Progressive to Chill and I actually was able to dust off my producer hat and take part in the production aspect of the release and not just sing. :D There will also be a remix release that will be going to promo mid 2010. We have been given some incredible remixes from some amazing producers for this and we both are overwhelmed that they are taking part in it. We’re very proud of this and looking forward to Monday for the initial album release.
I have many other projects I’m working on , but for the near future I have an EP coming soon that I am currently working on with Cj Peeton called “Love’s Tapestry”. That will have 3 tracks along with remixes from various friends of ours. And last but not least my own production of a track called “And So It Goes”. I drug my good friends Nick Horn and Shadowfall into this one. Seems a little strange to be featuring myself on a release but… :P I have the help of my friends on some incredible remixes so this is going to be an exciting release for me as well.

DJ News Mag : What would you say is the most satisfying part of what you do so far?

Diana : Being able to work with some outstanding people, both personally and musically. Everyone that I have worked with has been so supportive and wonderful, and to be able to be a part of their heartfelt inspiration and put a voice to their music is the most amazing thing I can think of doing with my life. When a producer gives me a track to sing on they entrust me with a very special part of their hearts and souls, and I try to make sure I take good care of that. So to be asked to sing for them is such an honor for me and extremely satisfying when the final results are given to me.

DJ News Mag : What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment musically?

Diana : Oh wow! Haha! Everything! Douglas Hazelwood’s “Since I’ve Missed You” (Anguilla Project Remix) on GDJB July 2009 compilation release, hearing the tracks I am a part of being played on Mellomania Deluxe and Vocal Trance Anthems with Pedro Del Mar, being a part of Overflow and the awesome new tracks that we have planned, doing my 5 mix radio shows. Everyday it seems that something else is handed to me that make it worth waking up for. There is nothing better than the feeling of music in your head and that is only followed closely by the feeling of love in your heart. (See I told you I was a hopeless romantic :P) You can only see the stars in the darkness, so if the darkness doesn’t scare you then everything is amazing.

DJ News Mag : What is your ultimate dream as a singer?

Diana : To be able to write a song that everyone will sing with. I think Robert Vadney’s “Blind” came close, but I have yet to see a track I’ve sang played and everyone sang along with it. THAT would be an amazing and heart wrenching moment for me.

DJ News Mag : Anything else you would like to add before we end up this exclusive interview or anything you would love to say to the Deejay News Magazine community or anyone reading this interview?

Diana : There isn’t enough bandwidth on the internet to allow me to thank everyone that I would like to. But I can sum it up in a few sentences. If you’re on my MSN you don’t need to be reminded of what you mean to me, and the respect that I have for you and what you bring to the world. If you’re in my heart you know I love you and will cherish you until I die, and if you’re reading this you have my gratitude for your support and I am humbled by your time.

As for DeeJay News Mag? IT”S ABOUT TIME MAGIK!! Many people have the wrong impression of this industry for so many reason, some of them are viable, but when it comes down to it, if there wasn’t a 17 year old kid sitting at his desk with a controller in front of him and producing software, vst’s, and drum loops filling a track we would not hear what we hear today. It all starts somewhere, even the top producers of this genre started somewhere, and someone gave them their first release. I think that it’s a great thing you are doing by showing the independent artists their love and I can’t tell you how overwhelmed I am that you asked me to do this interview for you. Thank you kindly sir! You’re a Prince.

DJ News Mag : And finally can you tell us something about the magazine?

Diana : Ah ha.. a Di PSA? (hehe)  Well Dj News Magazine at first glance is very appealing to the eye. As you browse the individual links it has a very user friendly interface and useful information to make it not only entertaining but also informative. There’s only one thing it’s missing… the video of “And So It Goes” in your video section. :P
